If a boil water notice follows

Long outages and storms can affect water systems. Orange County Utilities notifies affected customers directly, by the contact method on their account, and only if the notice covers their address, its utility emergencies page says. Under a precautionary advisory or a mandatory notice, the county says to:

  • Boil water for at least one minute before drinking it, cooking with it, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes by hand.
  • Keep boiling until the county announces the system is cleared, which takes at least 48 hours.
  • Check the Boil Water Hotline, 407-254-9670, or the county’s interactive map for status.
